Three students of the Enugu state university are currently fighting for their lives at the University of Nigeria teaching hospital (UNTH) after being shot by suspected armed robbers who attacked their hostel.

The Nation reports that the affected students are currently undergoing intensive surgery at the hospital where they were rushed to in the early hours of Saturday. (Continue)

The Special anti-robbery squad, SARS,Ikeja has busted a robbery syndicate consisting of a man and woman who specialise in robbing passengers who board their cab along Badagry-Mile 2 expressway.

The criminals were identified as Victoria Amodu and Ahmed Isiaka.Narrating her story to newsmen, Victoria said;
“I am from Edo State. I came to Lagos last February to look for greener pastures when my husband was constantly beating me.We were married for eight years.I abandoned my husband and three children and came to Lagos with the intention of living under the bridge until I found a place to lay my head.(continue)

An ex-member of the Oodua peoples congress (OPC) has been arrested for robbery and gun-running. 46 year old Ishola Jamiu was arrested after some robbers he provided guns for were caught by Officers of the Special anti-robbery squad.

Confessing to newsmen, he said;
“I joined the OPC when I came to Lagos. That was where I got two guns. I was also doing security work. They gave me the two guns while serving there.I left the OPC in 2009 and afterwards I left Lagos for Ogun State.(continue)

This evil criminal goes by the name, Olalekan Ajibola. He is a notorious armed robber who has terrorised the streets of Mushin, Lagos. Ajibola's main tool for robbery is an axe, which he uses to hack victims who do not cooperate or meet his demands.

He met his waterloo when he tried to rob the house of one Ogungbe, on folarin street mushin. Ajibola had stormed Ogungbe's house at about 3am that day and tried to break the door with his axe.(continue)

Police in Ekiti State have arrested 15 polytechnic students for armed robbery.

The students were said to have carried out some operations on December 14 using a white bus with number plate SUG 002 Thunder Attack.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Victor Babayemi, the suspects said to be students of a polytechnic in Kwara State, invaded two filling stations in Otun-Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area and dispossessed the attendants of the sales proceeds for that day.

The suspects, it added, destroyed fuel dispensers at the filling stations.

Babayemi said a pistol and a single barrel gun were recovered from the gang.

The PPRO explained that following a tip off, policemen arrested the suspects at Omuo-Ekiti, a border town between Ekiti, and Kogi states,

The police were alerted to the operations of a 15-man robbery gang that invaded two filling stations at Otun-Ekiti, with a white unregistered bus, but marked ‘SUG 002 Thunder Attack’ The gang, which was found to be made up of students of a polytechnic in Kwara State, beat up the attendants of the filling stations, destroyed their dispensing pumps and dispossessed them of their sales proceeds while brandising dangerous weapons.

“On receiving the information, police patrol teams were dispatched to seal off the exit routes in the state. And, before long, the gang was intercepted at Omuo-Ekiti, the boundary town between Ekiti and Kogi states and the occupants were arrested.”

The suspects are Mustapha AbdulQuadri, (24); Yusuf Rahman (27); Suleiman Abdul Rasak (30); Akorede Adewole (25); Ayandara Phillip (21); Lukman Amunulahi (24); Ajiboye Olamilekan (21); Abdulganiyu Suleiman, (22); and Alabi Oluwatoyosi, (24).

Others are Adebayo Michael (32); Alabi Olumide (25); Fatai Kabir (27); Ajibare Moshood (20); Aliyu Usman (27); and Olanipekun Abimbola (24).

Babayemi said the police recovered identity cards of some of them, adding that they confessed that they were students of a polytechnic.

He added, “We recovered the identity cards which showed that they are students of the school. We have written to the school about our findings and we are expecting their response.”

A man identified as Emeka Ogwu, a farmer at Kwale town, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State has been slammed with the death sentence by an Effurun high court for allegedly trying to Rob a woman.

One of the prosecution witnesses, Dorothy Asekpokai, a business woman, had told the court that the convict attempted to rob her on June 12, 2007, when she visited her new building site around Osubi.
She also identified the convict as the one who attempted to rob her with a gun but she narrowly escaped after driving away at top speed.

She said that in the process of escaping, she knocked down the convict, after which she raised alarm that eventually led to his arrest.

The court, presided over by Justice Godwin Gbemre, stated that prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Ogwu was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempt to commit armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms, contrary to Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
