A daredevil fraudster, Olayinka Salau shocked police officers and the jury at a Lagos court recently when he jumped into a canal to avoid trial.

Salau who resides in Lagos, was about to be arraigned at an Ejigbo magistrate court when he suddenly broke free from the police guards at the entrance of the court.The 35year old criminal jumped into a nearby canal,but his escape plot was foiled when an investigating Police Officer, IPO, Akinkumi Muni who also jumped into the canal in pursuit.

A serious scuffle ensued between the two in the water but Salau was subdued,re-arrested and brought back to court by Muni. The trial went on that day and salau was granted bail of N400,000 with 2 sureties. However he failed to meet the bail conditions and has been remanded in Kirikiri Maximum prisons.

Salau was initially arrested by the police at Area ‘M’ Command, Idimu, for allegedly stealing N430,000 belonging to his lover, Afunku Adeshola.
