13 people have been confirmed dead in a boat accident that occurred yesterday in Festac town, lagos.

The accident occurred yesterday when the boat which was carrying a total of 24 people capsized. Most of the people were young men who were rushing to watch the UEFA champions league football game. The accident happened at about 7:45 pm.

Eyewitness say the boat which ferries people from 4th Avenue to the nearby 6th Avenue, a distance of less than 50 yards across the water, has a capacity for 17 passengers but at least 24 people crowded themselves on the boat as some of the young men hurried to the football viewing centre at 41 Road, 4th Avenue. The boat was travelling gradually but the weight of the passengers was too heavy for it to handle, a little while later it capsized.

Only 5 people survived and 6 bodies are still missing. The dead comprised of 11 males and 2 females.
