Effiom Etim Effiong, a 27 year old final year microbiology student of the University of Calabar has been arrested and arraigned for the murder of Dr. Godwin Iwatt, a lecturer in the same department.
Iwatt,who was also an examination and record officer in the department, was shot by an unknown gunman but died a few days later in hospital due to complications from the bullet wound. Police investigations revealed that Effiom had sent a series of threat messages to the late lecturer from his phone.(continue)
Effiom was arraigned before a magistrate court in calabar and the presiding judge, Mrs. Agnes Obi Odu, adjourned the case to September 29, 2014, directing that the suspect be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the attorney general.
