Leader of the catholic church, Pope Francis has taken a seriously bold move to openly castigate the Ndragheta (Italian mafia).
It was the most severe condemnation of the Mafia by a pope for two decades, after criticism over twenty years ago triggered revenge attacks in Italy. The pope stated that the mafia was an “adoration of evil and contempt of the common good,”.
Speaking to thousands of people at a mass in the southern part of Italy, Pope France also said,“Those who in their lives follow this path of evil, as Mafiosi do, are not in communion with God. They are excommunicated.”
The last a pope(Pope John paul) openly rebuked the mafia, it led to a series of church bomb attacks.
