Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome paid N40 million to secure his release
Popular lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) allegedly paid N40 million to his abductors to secure his release in August 2013. This was revealed in a federal high court yesterday as Ozekhome's suspected kidnappers stood trial. Ozekhome paid his abductors in dollars.
The suspects, Mr. Kelvin Oniarah Eziegbe, Frank Azuekor and Michael Omonigho were also responsible for the kidnap of a former commissioner in Delta State, Prof. Hope Eghagha in September 2012. He paid N7 million naira for his own release.The court presided by Justice Adeniyi ademola also revealed that the suspects were responsible for some other high profile kidnaps spanning from 2010 - 2013.
They were arrested in Delta State were charged with conspiracy to commit terrorist act of kidnapping, serving as accessory to an act of terrorism, recruiting members, aiding and abetting terrorism and inciting persons to commit act of terrorism. justice Ademola rejected their application for baila and ordered that they be remanded in prison custody till July 1st.
