Pastor Olukoya of MFM is not happy with the Enugu state government over the recent demolition of his 5000 seater church auditorium in the state.

3 weeks ago the structure worth N500 million was pulled down by officials of the Enugu State Ministry of Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) over claims that the church was built on a waterway.Although the ministry had obtained an injunction against the destruction of the building, the government still went ahead to dismantle it.The church asserted that several other buildings on the same stretch of road where its regional headquarters was demolished, were still standing.

Governor Sullivan Chime had visited the church in August 2012 and ordered that the structure should be vacated within four days for allegedly obstructing water channels, despite legal documents to show that the building was not illegal.

The governor’s order was why the church went to the Enugu High Court to obtain an injunction for stay of action in September 2012 in its quest for justice. The government promised to compensate the church with a piece of land in another location but the 20 acre property is in the centre of a hot dispute between the Ngwo and Amaechi communities in the state.
