The management of Obafemi Awolowo university, Ile-ife has announced that the institution will be re-opening on August 24th.

According to the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, lectures will resume the next day, Monday 25th August 2014. The University was shut down on June 18th after students protested against an increase in school fees.

Officers of the Nigerian police force in ogun state have fired teargas at the protesting students of the Olabisi Onabanjo state University(OOU) students.

The student who were protesting for a reduction in their school fees turned violent after the police fired teargas and destroyed properties worth hundreds of thousands. The students who started the protest yesterday, Thursday august 14th, camped overnight at the Rev. Kuti secondary school, abeokuta before resuming their protest at 6:30 am this morning.(continue. photos below....)

Students of OOU are currently protesting in the state demanding a reduction in their school fees.The students have blocked and barricaded the presidential boulevard, a route leading to the Governor Ibikunle Amosun's office, adding that they will not leave until the Governor addresses them in the matter.
